Fish and other sea food are a great renewable resource. But if many fishes are catched at once, they might result in a quick pay out for fishes from the oceans. Consistently fishing in this manner, however, results in a small number of fish of a species remaining in the ocean. A limited fish population cannot quickly replenish itself through reproduction. Due to illegal and unregulated fishing, nearly one third of the fishes are overfished and over 60% of them are fished to the maximum sustainable yield.

Thus, they need to be carefully managed to make sure fish stocks aren’t over-exploited to the point when they become endangered.  The decline in ocean health isn’t just a problem for its habitants but it also effects the people who rely on the sea for the food and income.

Thus, Save The Seven Seas are at forefront promoting sustainable fishing practices and encouraging everyone to buy certified sustainable seafood. Together we can make a difference and protect our marine ecosystem.

How are we promoting responsible fishing?

Save The Seven Seas campaigns around the world to promote and create awareness around responsible fishing; ending harmful fishing subsides and unreported, unregulated fishing.

We also promote new creative technology that can assist the fishing industry in more effectively manner reducing hazardous bycatch and wasteful discards. We’ve been working with the seafood and fishing industries to reward and encourage good practice and responsible behaviour.
